Outdoor activities

In addition to the hunting and fishing activities there is an endless amount of hiking that can be done. The terrain is varied from high, sandy hills to lush green meadows with fens and bogs just waiting for you to explore. The trails are cattle trails and usually lead to the nearest windmills. There is a constantly changing kaleidoscope of colors in the endless variety of wildflowers that cover the hills and trails.

  • Hiking

  • Canoe trips on the Middle Loup and Dismal rivers

  • Badminton

  • Croquet

  • 9 Hole golf course in Mullen
There is fine birding opportunities available at the ranch. If you would like to visit some of the on line resources about our area please visit these web sites. Nebraska Bird Trails and Wild Bird Habitat.

There is a paddle boat for use on the on-site lakes. It is great for fishing, or just to sun bathe and watch the sunsets. We can arrange for canoe trips down the Middle Loup and the Dismal Rivers. One is good for novices, and the other for experienced canoeists. The trips take about 2-3 hours.

Mullen Golf Course is less than a half hour from the ranch and is a very fine community golf course that welcomes guests at any time that they aren’t engaged in a tournament or hosting a planned activity. It is a nine hole, grass course, challenging, and fun to play. While you are in town you may be able to enjoy a tour through the Historical Society Museum.

For the more energetic guests there is Badminton, Croquet, a basketball hoop, and Horseshoe Pitching. During inclement weather there is a good supply of games, cards, and puzzles to help while away the rain, wind, or snowy weather.

Away from the big city and bright lights, the Sand Hills provide a stargazer’s paradise! Nicknamed “Big Sky Country,” this area provides some of the best viewing of the stars in the United States. There are no “city lights” for many miles. The annual Nebraska Star Party is held each year just 25 miles North of the ranch.

Additional fishing, hunting, and boating can be found within a 25 mile radius at the State Refuge lakes and Merritt Reservoir.
