Historical Attractions

The Double R Ranch was established at the turn of the 19th century. A rich ancestral heritage lies within the walls of the original sod house. In it's day this was one of the finest homes in the area. It was built by the family of the present owners and is open for visitation to guests who might be interested. The house has 3 large rooms, with a full attic. There is a six inch covering of concrete over the exterior walls. The sod has been very well preserved. Most of the original furnishings remain inside, along with a library, musical instruments, dishes, and other miscellaneous artifacts. The original owner was a medical doctor, but also served as dentist and optometrist. Some of the doctor's surgical instruments and medical books are also available.

You can visit on-site, the original one-room schoolhouse for District 66 in Cherry County that dates back to 1912. It has been completely restored and includes the original desks, some schoolbooks, an 1886 upright grand piano, and an extensive private library. The piano is tuned every year and is used for weekly piano lessons. There is regular playground equipment that can be enjoyed by the younger crowd. Guests enjoy it as a fun getaway place. They can read and browse the bookshelves, or play the wonderful old piano.
