Deer Hunting
Sportsmen can enjoy some of the finest deer hunting in
the Sand Hills at the Double R.
The ranch is located in a vast and sparsely populated
part of the Sand Hills, teeming with wildlife, and a big
variety of species. The Whitetail Deer and Mule
Deer abound, and more and more Prong-horn Antelope
are being seen. Many trophy deer are taken each deer hunting
season according to Kit Hams, the Program Manager of the
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s, Big Game Program.
He says that, “The Sand Hills Management Unit has
the highest percentage of mature, trophy whitetail deer
—and it should, it has been managed as a TROPHY
UNIT since 1991.”
Deer hunters will find that the rugged, high, sandy hills,
and the heavily-grassed, marsh land on this Nebraska ranch,
add to the challenge of the hunt. Because there is a very
high population of deer, the deer hunters are welcomed!
The antelope hunts are just returning to this area, so
Cherry County may have limited Buck Only antelope hunt
permits a year. |

Several
trophy deer are taken each season by
Rifle, Muzzle loader, and Bow hunting. Deer hunters should
have no trouble filling permits! However, our deer hunts
are all no-guarantee deer hunts. We can provide guide
services if requested in advance. Deer hunting
on the ranch is limited to our on-site guests only.
If your group needs to use two of our cottages you will
be given exclusive deer hunting rights here for the duration
of your stay at the ranch. In addition, all of the deer
hunters can do additional hunting while they are here,
free of additional fees, but with the required licenses.
They can hunt the waterfowl, upland game, and small game
that might be in season during their down times.
Deer season is set by the Nebraska Game
and Parks Commission so Opening Day varies from year to

Rates and Reservations
A 3-Day, No-guarantee Deer Hunt ----- $1000 per person,
includes lodging, no meals provided.
.Minimum 2---Maximum 4 hunters per cabin----Additional
days: $200 per person per day
All hunters must sign a Waiver of Liability prior to hunting.
Cabins have full cooking facilities and all necessary
utensils, dishes, etc. All you bring is your food; linens
and bedding supplied.
Reservations require a $300 per person deposit, with balance
due upon arrival. Deposits are non-refundable except that,
if you are unable to fulfill the reservation as planned,
the deposit is good for the next year’s hunting

Lodging
These are modern, deluxe cabins. The larger, newest cabin
sleeps 6 adults and the smaller one sleeps 3-4 adults;
The cabins have TV, a bedroom, dining area, living area
and a kitchenette with all dinnerware, utensils, pots,
and appliances furnished. All bedding and linens are furnished.
The Lakeside unit, just completed, sleeps 5-6 adults,
has a roomy, comfortably- furnished living room, fully
equipped kitchen, and dining room. This unit does not
have TV. The cabins are each furnished with good lounging
furniture and offer great relaxation time for cards, games,
or just rehashing the day’s deer hunt!
