About
Nebraska’s Double R Ranch
This guest ranch is in the heart of the
Nebraska sand hills, near Mullen and Valentine,
Nebraska. It is a land of spring-fed lakes and lush fields
of open prairie; a land where cattle outnumber the people! Whether
you are looking for quiet serenity, or an outdoor adventure,
you can experience the best of both worlds at the Nebraska
Double R Ranch. You can hunt Whitetail Deer
and Mule Deer over spectacular 4-wheel drive terrain;
hunt the abundant waterfowl on the private lakes;
hike the sandy dunes and tall-grass, prairie hills for
Sharp-tail Grouse, and other upland game birds; fish for
Yellow Perch and Northern Pike in the sparklingly, clear,
spring-fed lakes; go birding along the many trails, the
evergreen groves, or explore along the marshy, flat lands. |

Horseback
Riding
You
can ride our horses, or you can bring your own horses.
There is an additional fee for riding, and a minimal
fee for boarding your horses if you want to bring your
own. You can look forward to leisurely rides along the
cow trails through the hills and in the lush green hay
meadows. (See Section Other Activities for additional
information about riding requirements.)
The
Nebraska State Merritt Reservoir is nearby; also the
state refuge lakes are close for additional boating,
fishing, and hunting. Historians will enjoy the
early pioneer history at the ranch and will see many
artifacts by taking a tour of the original 1908, three-room,
sod house and with a visit to the restored, one-room
schoolhouse, both of which are on site. Additionally,
many star gazers from around the United States have
had a leisurely stay at the Double R and have been able
to set up their giant-sized telescopes for a view of
the heavens without suffering the distraction of bright
city lights. They do seem to appreciate the big
sky and the peaceful solitude! |
